New Research and Development Hub in Greece for TeamViewer

Goppingen, January 22, 2020– TeamViewer®, the German tech company and provider of a global remote connectivity platform, has inaugurated its new Research & Development Hub in Ioannina, Greece. The new R&D location underscores TeamViewer’s goal to further spur innovation, which will help diversify its product range even further in order to serve more use cases and an even more diverse customer set, while expanding to more geographies worldwide at the same time.

The TeamViewer R&D hub in Ioannina houses some newly established agile teams and talents who will enhance the R&D’s engineering capabilities. TeamViewer’s software solutions foster global mega trends such as digital transformation, robotics and automation or Industrial Internet of Things and are increasingly aiming at combining information technology and operation technology in smart environments, and this can only be achieved with a gust of innovation. The new R&D teams in Ioannina will play a pivotal role towards reinforcing more innovation across the entire organization’s product portfolio.

With Ioannina being the dwelling place for several universities and graduates in the computer science field, TeamViewer will continue to strive to attract up-and-coming talents and create successful career paths for them within the organization. The center currently employs 17 engineers from Greece and abroad and TeamViewer plans to expand the workforce up to 150 – 200 engineers over the next years. Already in 2020 more than 50 software developers shall be onboarded to the new hub.

During the inauguration ceremony,  Mike Eissele, CTO of TeamViewer, revealed that : “TeamViewer has a long-term plan for this R&D Hub in Ioannina. Ioannina is a melting pot of Engineering graduates and we plan to attract talents from Ioannina, Athens and Thessaloniki. This is because we see in them a great potential to reinforce our innovation efforts, as we strive to expand our use cases in many more areas.”

In his address to everyone present, the Deputy Minister of Investment and Development Mr Nikos Papathanasis said: “This is a great opportunity for our country us, as we are currently tuning a new page in Greece. We really need such exemplary projects which will not only offer jobs to people in this region, but it will attract young talents from abroad back to Greece. We welcome you to Ioannina and Greece. We are looking forward to joining forces with your, in order to write a joint success story.”

The General Secretary of Research and Development Mr. Vasilis Kyriazis, representing the Prime Minister underscored the importance of research, technology and innovation: “It is important for academic institutions and private enterprises to collaborate to give such projects the magnitude they deserve. The Government will always support such initiatives.”
