The story in a nutshell

  • Digitalizing its processes is a central challenge for Rems-Murr-Kliniken, which has set itself the goal of becoming a “paperless hospital”.
  • The clinics rely on TeamViewer Tensor for efficient, secure remote support of their constantly growing IT infrastructure.
  • Seamless support provided by integrating TeamViewer into the existing IT architecture.
  • TeamViewer as a central component of digital transformation, enabling the healthcare personnel to focus on their tasks.
  • TeamViewer's reliability and user-friendliness are among the most important advantages.

Challenges

Rems-Murr-Kliniken is an association of public hospitals in South-Western Germany. They provide important medical services to the 430,000 inhabitants of the Rems-Murr district. Every year, 3,000 employees at two locations take care of about 44,000 inpatients and 103,000 outpatients from in and around the region.

Digital transformation is a central concern for the hospitals, which is why management supports innovative approaches whenever they seem useful. Through their initiative, they hope to engage with two challenges the healthcare sector is facing: the increasing legal and technical requirements for record keeping and the problem of talent shortage. One important goal of the association's digital transformation strategy is the so-called "paperless hospital". Step by step, digital solutions, applications and endpoints will replace old paper-based processes.

The hospitals' internal IT team plays a crucial part in the implementation and operation of the growing digital ecosystem. Its 20 team members manage and maintain the growing IT infrastructure of around 2,000 devices across two locations. The software they use has to be compliant with the strict security requirements of the healthcare sector.

Marvin Krewenka IT admin at Rems-Murr-Kliniken

“We have been using TeamViewer for years now, and it has always been easy to use and very reliable. It is so well established in our hospitals that almost all employees are familiar with it. This is a real advantage, since we don't have to explain much when a user reaches out to us for support. We simply start TeamViewer and fix the problem”

Solution

The IT team already uses TeamViewer for efficient and safe remote access on devices across their digital ecosystem. With more than 3,000 sessions per year the solution is an integral part of the daily work of the IT team. Security is of high concern, since the IT experts access laptops, desktops and other devices that contain sensitive data of patients and employees. The robust security architecture of TeamViewer ensures that this data always stays safe.

Because technical and legal requirements are increasing and the number of managed devices is growing, the IT team recently decided to upgrade to the enterprise solution TeamViewer Tensor. An important aspect of the upgrade was the compatibility of Tensor with the Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) system the hospital association uses. New versions of TeamViewer can now be distributed quickly and centrally to all devices, ensuring they are always up-to-date and as secure as possible.

"We can also start a TeamViewer connection from within the UEM software. When an employee calls us, we can see on which device they are logged in. We only need the client password to be able to start a connection. Employees neither have to start the TeamViewer app nor have to tell us their ID. It's such a time-saver," says Marvin Krewenka.

Result

With the help of TeamViewer, the IT team is able to support employees quickly and efficiently whenever they face an IT problem.

TeamViewer helping the hospitals go paperless while keeping medical and administrative processes that have already been digitalized continuously up and running. Several thousand TeamViewer sessions per year show that TeamViewer is an integral part of the IT team's daily work at Rems-Murr-Kliniken.
