Porto, June 21 – The hub is part of TeamViewer’s global R&D organization and will focus on further developing the company’s augmented reality solutions. Currently, 30 highly qualified software and design engineers are employed in the hub and expects to hire 25 more specialists by the end of the year.
Driven by innovations and ever-evolving customer requirements, the software industry is developing dynamically. An important success factor is the ability to develop new solutions and bring them to the market quickly. That’s why TeamViewer has increased the number of employees working in its R&D organization by 20% in 2021 compared to 2020. By establishing an additional R&D hub in Portugal, the company doubled down on the strategic advancement of its engineering capabilities for world-class software innovation. A big part of TeamViewer’s new AiStudio add-on to its enterprise Augmented Reality platform “TeamViewer Frontline”, which consists of a self-learning algorithm to train AI models for image and object recognition, was developed in Porto.
Mike Eissele, Teamviewer’s Chief Technology Officer, says: “The decision for Portugal as location was based on a comprehensive selection framework evaluating key growth and cultural factors including availability of top talent, educational infrastructure, regulatory framework, entrepreneurial mindset, and quality of life. So far, Porto has proven to be an excellent location for our R&D hub with many good universities and a large pool of top engineering talent highly motivated to drive the next wave of digitization”.
Luís Castro Henriques, Chairman & CEO of AICEP, Portugal’s Trade & Investment Agency, said: “We are very proud to welcome TeamViewer to Portugal. This is a clear demonstration that Porto has become a preferred destination for technology-based operations that can benefit from a highly skilled and dynamic talent pool. The focus on augmented reality solutions that TeamViewer brings to the local ecosystem is a key contribution to Portugal’s positioning as a leading technology Hub in Europe.”
