What is TeamViewer Backup?

TeamViewer Backup is a disk-to-cloud (D2C) backup service that safely stores your data offsite. By utilizing the highly secure Amazon Web Services (AWS), TeamViewer Backup leverages the latest technology to ensure that backups are always available and ready to be restored.

How to access TeamViewer Backup

TeamViewer Backup can be accessed in TeamViewer Remote or via the web app on the Remote Management tab.

How to set a retention period for all device backups

The retention period determines how long versions of files in your backup are kept. Versions older than the set time period will be automatically purged. To set the retention period for all backups, select Retention period beneath Backup when on the Remote Management tab. On the right-hand side, click the drop-down to select the desired time frame.

How to access Backup devices

The Devices tab contains backups and backup information from all devices. Select the desired device name on this tab to open the Backup drawer. From here, you can view the currently applied policy and the backup information (including the schedule, selection, and usage) and run a new backup at any time outside of the scheduled backups. The Devices tab displays the following information:

  • Device name
  • Backup status
  • Storage used (Total)
  • Last backup date

How to restore from a device's backup

To access a device's backup, begin on the Devices tab of TeamViewer Backup. Select the three-dot menu to the device's left and select the available restore option. This will open a file tree directory containing all files backed up from the device.

Select the checkbox next to the desired files and select Restore in the upper right corner. In the new corresponding window, select where you want the files to be put.

Restore to this device

If selected, the options to restore to the original location or a new location will be presented. If a new location is desired, enter the full file path for the restoration. Select Restore to begin the restoration process

Restore to another device

If selected, first select the device where the files should be restored.  In the next window, enter the full file path for the restoration. Select Restore to begin the restoration process
