TeamViewer Achieves DCB 129 Certification: Strengthening Trust in Healthcare Technology

In the news, Security, Award

DCB129 is a mandatory standard issued by the UK's National Health Service (NHS) that ensures healthcare technology safety by requiring vendors to assess and mitigate risks to patient safety. It ensures compliance with regulatory requirements across the Commonwealth, safeguarding patient care and promoting trust in healthcare technologies. Compliance is essential for vendors operating within the NHS framework.

We asked Patricia Leppert, Team Manager Customer Trust and Security, why this is important for TeamViewer's clients:

Q. Why is compliance with the DCB 129 standard a significant milestone for TeamViewer in the healthcare sector?

A. At TeamViewer, we are pleased to have achieved DCB 129 because it confirms our solutions meet strict NHS clinical safety standards. This certification isn’t just about compliance – it underscores the thorough safety measures we’ve always built into our technology. This is a way to reassure healthcare providers that we share their focus on safety and reliability. As a company, we are fully committed to supporting the highest level of patient-centric innovation.

Q. What were the key challenges in meeting the stringent clinical safety requirements, and how did TeamViewer overcome them?

A. One major challenge with the Clinical Safety Officer was identifying every potential hazard, from system unavailability to data misinterpretation. Thanks to our security-by-default approach, these risks had already been mitigated beforehand. We teamed up with healthcare experts to flag very low to low risks related to factors like low battery, missing Wi-Fi, or potential misinterpretation of provided data. Ongoing reviews ensure nothing slips through the cracks. As a result of this process, we tackled each challenge head-on and fulfilled DCB 129 requirements.

Q. How does TeamViewer ensure continuous compliance and stay ahead of evolving healthcare regulations?

A. As TeamViewer, we always go further – we don’t stop at being compliant to a standard. At least every six months, we update our documentation and risk assessments to keep up with changing standards, including those in healthcare. We also use version control to clearly track every update. This proactive approach helps ensure our solutions stay safe and compliant for the long run.
